QTS 4.2 RC5 is the latest firmware version from QNAP and includes a vast number of exciting features and a sleek new user interface. Join the QTS 4.2 RC5 program today and help us to create the next generation of QTS with your valuable feedback and suggestions. (Please refer to the release note for details on the features and enhancements. Participants are advised to backup critical data in advance.)

QTS 4.2 RC5 Firmware

Notes

  4. If the participants are using Firmware version 3.7 or earlier, please upgrade the firmware to version 3.8 first.
  5. Please note that since the Beta edition has not yet been commercially released by QNAP, it may contain errors or inaccuracies and may result in data loss or cause issues of system reliability. If such problems arise, you may need to reinitialize your system to resume normal operation.
  6. To ensure continued synchronization following an upgrade to QTS 4.2, the Qsync Client on your local PC also requires an upgrade. The latest version for Windows is 2.0, for Mac, 1.2. Please get the utilities from the link [Windows] [Mac].

[Bug Fixes]

  • When playing photos as a slideshow on a DLNA TV, Photo Station 5 will get stuck on a single photo.
  • Qvideo for iOS fails to load .srt files.
  • Qvideo for Android fails to load .srt files.
  • Video Station fails to update movie information.
  • The Episode Filter in Download Station cannot recognize Italian characters.
  • The system incorrectly recognizes Traditional Chinese filenames if they are uploaded to the NAS (mapped as a FTP drive) using Windows File Explorer.
  • The system fails to remove the .dsdownload filename extension once files have finished downloading.
  • Photo Station fails to load Pixlr Editor.
  • The system fails to activate EuP mode.
  • The system fails to retain speed settings for system fans after the fan rotation speed is set to manual.
  • The system fails to enter sleep mode.
  • The TS-470 Pro fails to output sound through the Audio Out port.
  • Users are unable to set the MTU size to 9000 on x39, x59, x69, x71, x79 and x80 series NAS for LAN ports that use Intel network controller i217, 82574, or 82579 (for these ports, users can set the MTU size on the NAS to 8996 instead and set the matching MTU size on the switch/router as needed.)

[Known Issues]

  • Uploading pictures from Photo Station 5 to Weibo may result in unpredictable failure.
  • If the NAS is busy or is running with a high loading rate, the system will record a large number of "Turn on (or off) file-based swap" or "Turn on file-based swap failed" messages in the System Log.

QTS 4.2.0 Build 0919

[Bug Fixes]

  • Qfile and myQNAPcloud website cannot show Share Folders.
  • After being set to default settings, the power recovery function does not use these settings after restarting the NAS.
  • Disabling the Domain Controller does not unmount the POSIX ACL of major volumes.
  • Virtualization Station fails to enter its Create VM and Preferences page.

  • Uploading pictures from Photo Station 5 to Weibo may result in unpredictable failure.

QTS 4.2.0 Build 0918

[Bug Fixes]

  • When testing the connection for RTRR jobs in Backup Station, an invalid username/password will be displayed.
  • Converting metadata to 64GB when an iSCSI LUN is connected may cause the process to fail.
  • After editing the Description of a computer in the NAS Domain Controller Page, attempting to log into that computer with a domain user will fail.
  • ARM-based NAS cannot show all of the users in the trusted network in Domain Users/Groups list.
  • Gmail Backup will display an error for the Data Volume size on the overview page.
  • The system will restart after taking a snapshot.
  • The iSCSI Target authentication will fail after restarting the NAS.
  • The system will be unable to show destination pools after creating a Replication Job in Snapshot Replica.
  • The tooltip will not be displayed when over mSATA and HDD icons.
  • The TS-269H cannot connect to VPN Server (OpenVPN).
  • If the network recycle bin is disabled, the volume from File Manager cannot be seen.
  • Photos cannot be uploaded to newly-created folders in Multimedia in Photo Station 5.
  • Slideshows in Photo Station 5 will not play audio.
  • No downloads will occur on .torrent files after the torrent.html download is completed.
  • Enabling "Restrict the access of Recycle Bin to administrators only of now" and then enabling "Enable Advanced Folder Permissions" will cause non-Administrators group users to be able to access the Recycle Bin.
  • Symform fails to work after upgrading from 4.1.4 to 4.2.0.
  • Video Station cannot create new thumbnails if the "Modified Date" is changed after the thumbnail is created.
  • Cloud drives cannot be connected via SMB over anonymous connections.
  • If a BT job contains thousands of files before upgrading, then the upgrade will take a prolonged time to complete.
  • There will be no response if a folder is right clicked in File Station and the Ok button is clicked inside the Copy to wizard.

QTS 4.2.0 Build 0910

[Bug Fixes]

  • Fails to list files in File Station.
  • Fixed potential CGI vulnerabilities. Users are advised to upgrade their NAS firmware with this release.
  • Fixed Apache HTTP Server vulnerability (CVE-2015-3183).
  • Fails to log into NAS after setting up 2-step verification.
  • Fails to mount a USB device connected via a USB hub.
  • After setting a bridge of a VPN Server to the default Gateway and connecting a VPN Client to the VPN Server, users will be unable to connect to the internet.
  • Unnecessary attributes may be displayed after connecting to Google Drive/Microsoft OneDrive in File Station and right clicking on its folder.
  • Videos will not be smoothly played when streaming via Airplay from the File Station toolbar.
  • A cloned VM will be unable to boot up with Read/Write cache enabled if using a Block-based thin LUN.
  • HGST HUS726020AL5210 (12Gbps SAS) drives may be missing when performing iometer tests for a certain period of time.
  • The file based iSCSI LUN will be missing in the cloned volume of a snapshot clone.
  • If a RAID 5 pool is expanded in Storage Management, the expanded HDD becomes a spare HDD.
  • 250T/144T cannot be created on block-based thin LUNs.
  • There are excessive samba processes after changing Windows ACL permissions and launching File Station.
  • TS-269H models occasionally fail to copy files to Dropbox.
  • When using Microsoft Edge, Surveillance Station will identify it as Internet Explorer.
  • After upgrading to Surveillance Station 5.1.0.1, the default recordings folder in the playback path will be missing.
  • Surveillance Station cannot display all the playback channels.
  • Surveillance Station fails to generate event logs if changing SMTP server settings in Event Management.
  • Fails to execute zip files when uploading them via FTP to the NAS when "Advanced Folder Permission" is enabled in File Station.
  • Fails to apply new permissions for non-Administrator groups in File Station's permissions setup page.
  • The owner and user list fields cannot display long usernames in File Station's permissions setup page.
  • The Guest Access Rights in File Station's folder permissions always shows "-2" regardless of what value you give it.

QTS 4.2.0 Build 0902

[Bug Fixes]

  • Fixed Change Password vulnerability.
  • Fixed Apple Networking vulnerability.
  • Fixed multiple OpenSSH vulnerabilities (CVE-2015-5600 and other three).
  • Fixed WebDAV vulnerability.
  • If MySQL fails, the connection of the Qsync Client will act abnormally.
  • Pools/volumes created in QTS 4.2.0 will be invalidated if you downgrade to a previous firmware.
  • If a WLAN is set as the gateway on a TS-x12 series model, restarting the NAS will cause the gateway to change to LAN1
  • The TS-269H cannot connect to Sony SRS-X2 Bluetooth speakers.
  • Some MP3s are not audible when playing on Music Station.
  • If you check then uncheck the SMB Encryption option in shared folders, the option will still be checked.
  • After installing HD Station then rebooting the NAS, encrypted volumes will be stuck in a "Loading" state.
  • The NAS will be unstable when enabling the domain controller and changing Windows ACL permissions.
  • System Connection logs will be incorrect for opening shared links and downloading files from shared links.
  • After reverting to a snapshot using SnapAgent, the Esxi datastore will be empty.
  • After NetBak finishes backing up, the VSS should be deleted by the system in SnapAgent.
  • TS-x31+ series models fail to download files after downloading torrent files.
  • When streaming media files to the DLNA player, if you drag the progress bar in Media Viewer the NAS will exit the play function.
  • When accessing QTS using an iPhone 6, the login page will not remember users' log in details.
  • Normal users can find QPKGs via search.
  • Fails to show personal photos after changing the image.
  • HD Station will fail to be installed if Container Station is installed and activated before updating it.
  • The connection to a cloud drive via samba in File Station will cause the NAS to freeze if you click on a drive that has over 120 subfolders.
  • An error message will be displayed if you remove a connection to Amazon in File Station and then attempt to connect to it again.
  • A connection cannot be created if you log in to File Station with a manually-entered IP address.
  • Downloading the key file in Encryption Folder will display an Internal Server Error.
  • Fails to connect to Box in File Station.
  • The [Expand Capacity] button does not work when clicked on.
  • When importing users from DC, the password preview will show an incorrect password if it has characters after the "<".
  • After expanding capacity, the pool information will still say it's full on the dashboard.
  • Moving folder A in Multimedia to a Public folder in File Station will take an excessive amount of time.
  • Backup jobs cannot be created with the same name as deleted jobs.
  • Checking the file system will result in errors after Gmail Backup is installed.
  • User-customized databases will be unable to upgrade to the correct version after you upgrade from 4.1.4 to 4.2.0.
  • The Play option is missing when right clicking on media files found by the search function.

QTS 4.2.0 Build 0819

[Bug Fixes]

  • There are no links in the email when sharing files via email in Gallery mode.
  • Fails to login to Photo Station if the account name contains spaces.
  • The coordinates data displays "N/A" when switching to Gallery Mode in Photo Station 5.
  • Fails to save the time/date of modifying files in Photo Station 5.
  • The system fails to load Pixlr Editor / Pixlr Express.
  • Fails to connect to the NAS via PC when using the QL2TP-IPsec app.
  • Fails to connect to the NAS via mobile devices when using the QL2TP-IPsec app.
  • Fails to set up WordPress (displays a "wp-config.php" error).
  • If the default folder has a long name, the Congratulations page is abnormally displayed.
  • An error message "NAS can not connect to a remote server." is displayed when opening a Thunder download.
  • Virtualization Station 2.0 cannot be installed on the TS-879 Pro.
  • The What's New screen is incorrectly displayed when launching Virtualization Station in IE11 or Firefox.
  • Fails to log into the web page with SSL in Virtualization Station.
  • Fails to upload a folder or add folders in File Station.
  • An error message "Failed to generate thumbnail." is displayed after uploading PDF files to File Station.
  • Cannot display folder information of remote space when mounting specific Google Drive accounts in File Station.
  • The external connection configurations becomes corrupted, causing the myQNAPcloud App in QTS to hang after users connect to QTS from the myQNAPcloud portal site.
  • When remote mount is set to "admin only", the File Station toolbar still shows remote mount buttons for normal users.
  • When large files are drag & dropped from the local NAS to remote FTP, the size and number of these files will be incorrectly displayed in the background tasks.
  • The HS-210 cannot launch the diagnostic tool.
  • Hard drives cannot be put on standby after installing Connect to Cloud Drive.
  • When the Network Recycle Bin is disabled, enabling then disabling an installed app in the App Center will cause the Recycle Bin will appear for few seconds.
  • When uploading a large number of files to the NAS using FileZilla (FTP-TLS), the connection becomes unstable due to a memory leak (ProFTPD vulnerability).
  • If a shortcut to the desktop is created using the system menu in the upper-left corner, it will be displayed as blank after upgrading the firmware from 4.1.4 to 4.2.0.
  • The Spanish is incorrect in the Create Shared Folders page.
  • Fails to browse external pages after the OpenVPN is successfully connected.
  • Pausing a download in Download Station and then upgrading the firmware will cause the download to appear completed.
  • After upgrading to firmware 4.2.0, disabling and then enabling WebDAV will cause QTS to display a "[Web Server] Started failed" message.
  • Clicking the Share Now button will display an "Unknown Error" message when sharing links via email.
  • The SSL certificate (even if installed) will also be removed if the myQNAPcloud SSL Certificate app is removed.
  • The detailed thumbnail mode (unavailabe in QTS 4.2) is still active after upgrading to QTS 4.2 from an earlier firmware version.
  • Selecting a blue background color for the desktop in firmware 4.1.4 and then upgrading to 4.2.0 will change the background color.
  • Unable to hibernate after shutting down all NAS services.
  • Fails to connect with NetDrive2 in WebDAV if there are spaces in the folder name.
  • An error message "Fail to update RSS feeds (0x6013)" will be displayed when adding new RSS (https://kat.cr/movies/?rss=1).
  • Unable to add NAS in VSphere Plugin.
  • Upgraded from MySQL to MariaDB version 5.5.44 (excluding the TS-x21, TS-x20, TS-x19, TS-x12, and TS-x10 series). Before upgrading to QTS 4.2.0, please ensure your applications are compatible with the new version of MariaDB.
  • Upgraded MySQL to version 5.1.73 for the TS-x21, TS-x20, TS-x19, TS-x12, and TS-x10 series. A MariaDB app is available in the App Center, but the app does not support InnoDB.
  • Fails to check the file system (and cannot unmount the disk) after establishing a Google Drive remote connection in File Station.
  • After encountering an abnormal disconnection in the VPN Client, it will fail to establish a connection by clicking on "Connection".
  • When installing the Multimedia Extension Pack QPKG when the DLNA Server is disabled, it fails to change the setting from the DLNA Server ("Selecting a default account").
  • Fails to establish an L2TP connection using Mac OS.
  • Fails to send a test email for some SMTP servers.
  • A segfault occurs in libuLinux_hal.so if the RAM brand name is over 32 characters.
  • Fails to generate thumbnails when uploading PDF files via File Station (Photo Station Extension is installed).
  • Fails to backup files via Rsync on NAS that support Snapshots.
  • The TS-419 P+ fails to trigger motion detection in Surveillance Station.

[Note]

  • Currently, Qfile and Qget do not support 2-step Verification.
  • All versions of the Qget utility (Windows, Mac and Linux versions) are being discontinued. Qget will no longer work with future versions of QTS (from QTS 4.2).
  • The following Apps do not work after upgrading to QTS 4.2.0 and have been temporarily removed from the App Center for this release:
    • Azure Storage, Glacier, Google Cloud Storage, hicloud S3, S3Plus, SFR, OpenStack Swift, and WebDAV.

  • The system notification messages display the timestamp using an incorrect format after changing the time zone to GMT.

Download Station

File Station

  • Added the "Share to NAS user" option in File Station (right click on a file in "File Station" > "Share" > "To NAS user".)
  • Added the "Share with me" item in the left panel in File Station for a list of links shared with the logged-in user.
  • Added the "Share space with a user" option in File Station (the "+" button > "Share space with a user".)
  • Added support for sharing links using CloudLink in File Station.
  • Added support for opening and editing office documents in File Station (the "Office Editing for Docs, Sheets & Slides" Extension must be installed in Google Chrome to use this feature.)
  • Added support for opening documents with Google docs and Office Online in File Station (users must have a myQNAPcloud account and have "CloudLink" enabled before using this feature.)
  • Added support for remote connections to connect to remote/cloud storage and added the "Connection Record" and "Current Connection Status" options in File Station. To create a remote connection, click the "Remote Connection" icon > "Create remote connection" (the "Cloud Drive" app must be installed before using this feature). Supported cloud storage services: Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive*, FTP and WebDAV.

myQNAPcloud

Change

  • The "Auto router configuration", "DDNS", "Publish service" and "CloudLink" options are now open for user selection in myQNAPcloud Wizard in myQNAPcloud.
  • Added support for QID access control in myQNAPcloud (in "myQNAPcloud" > "Access Control" > select "Customized" in "Device access controls" and add QID account holders.)

Network

[Bug fixes]

  • The system increases the system reserved size when creating hard links.
  • The supported domain name becomes too short when it contains more than 32 characters.
  • The system fails to detect progress while performing a file system check (remains at 0% until it is complete.)
  • The file sizes detected are different between a shared folder mounted using the NAS IP address and a shared folder mounted using the NAS domain name.
